History of pole dancing – part 2

Posted on 26 July 2009 by Miss Pole Dance

Pole dance through the years

The first pole dance on record was in 1968 by Belle Jangles at the Mugwump strip club in Oregon but the style of pole dancing as we know it today is thought to have come from Canada’s lap dancing and table dancing clubs of the 1980s.
The first instructional pole dancing DVD was produced buy Fawnia Mondey who was originally from Canada and one of the first pole dancing champions in the 1990s.
Pole dancing spread like wildfire though Canada and the US and then the rest of the world the North American idea of lap dancing and table dancing clubs spread with the help of companies such as the Spearmint Rhino.

In the 1990’s lap dancing and exotic table dancing clubs in the UK started to add pole dancing to their acts.
Modern pole dancing involves dancing around a vertical pole combining acrobatics and strength with sensual feminine dance.
Pole dancing has probably made the biggest leap forward since 2000 in terms of loosing its stigma and it has recently begun to spread out of the strip clubs into the mainstream finding new homes in theatre and cabaret.

In 2006 pole fitness came on the scene, which took pole dancing to the masses.
The emphasis on pole dancing as a form of exercise further helped remove its taboo and distanced it from older sleazier preconceptions.
Pole dancing is now an activity that women regularly enjoy without the sordid stigma that used to be attached to pole dance.
Pole Dancing lessons take place in many towns across the UK offering a sexy, fun alternative to traditional aerobics or dance classes. In fact many everyday women now use pole dancing as part of their fitness regime.

Many women also practice pole dancing from the comfort of their own home. Some start with lessons at first to get some experience and then practice at home on their own dance pole. However there are many pole dancing DVDs which can use to learn pole dance at home.  It is really easy to get hold of a dance pole and you have a choice of permanent or removable poles.
National and international pole dancing competitions such as “Miss Pole Dance” have helped to promote pole dancing as a professional, respectable dance form.

Pole dancing is becoming more and more accepted by society and loose its taboo and in recent years pole dancing has become a very popular and enjoyable form of exercise and a fun hen night or party activity.
